POST 7: Who is a person/expert on your field that you admire?
Hello
everybody, welcome back to my blog, today I’m going to write about an expert on
my field that I really admire and inspires me, her name is Maria Montessori.
She was
born on 31 August, 1870 in Italy. In those times, Italy had conservative values
about genre roles, but even that Montessori when she was growing up, discovered
she has aptitude for mathematics, and then her love for the sciences,
specifically, biology. So knowing that, time after she became the first female
doctor in Italy.
Maria Montessori
is famous for her “early childhood education research”, she based her
methodology on Biological/ psychological, religion and pedagogical elements. The
Montessori methodology has their own curriculum that is divided into five keys
areas of learning: Practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and
culture, also creating learning materials (activities and toys) based on these
five keys areas of learning, like the “Pink tower”, is one of her famous
sensorial materials.
Another important thing about the methodology is the teacher’s role. Is
interesting, because the educator is not the protagonist of the learning, the
center of the attention here are children. So, educator just has to act like a
guide to them and letting them be independent about their own learning, about
what they want to do or what they want to learn.
I like Maria Montessori, because even in those conservative times, she
became a doctor, and she wasn’t caring about what people said. And about the
methodology that she created I like how independent can be children of their
own learning.
That’s all for today!
See you!
